Viking Floats Out Newest Ocean Cruise Ship

Published

on

Viking’s newest ocean ship, the 988-passenger, 54,000-ton Vika Mira, was floated out on July 31 at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona, Italy.

The float out represents a major milestone for the ship, where it was moved from a construction area to the water for the first time.

Viking Mira is slated to inaugurate service in spring 2026 on sailings in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.

It is the 12th Viking ship in the company’s ocean fleet.

“In our view, together with Fincantieri, we have created the world’s most elegant fleet of small ocean ships – and the float out of the Viking Mira marks yet another important milestone as we continue to grow our fleet,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking.

Two Viking Mira sister ships – Viking Libra and Viking Astea – are set to be delivered to the line in late 2026 and 2027, respectively. Both will serve as what is believed to be the first hydrogen-powered cruise vessels.

The adults-only Viking ocean ships are equipped with accommodations with verandas, a generous number of food-and-beverage options, two-deck Explorer Lounges and more.
