If you’re looking for the ideal family destination in the UK, this could be just the place thanks to its beautiful beaches, activities as well as food and drink spots
With summer upon us, many are planning short breaks and outdoor adventures to enjoy the warmer weather. While travelling abroad has its allure, it can be costly and time-consuming due to long-haul flights, potentially requiring additional time off work. Luckily, Britain is filled with splendid staycation spots that offer memorable experiences and days out without breaking the bank.
One such picturesque location is nestled in Wales. Aberporth Bay boasts two beaches named Dolwen and Dyffryn. These expansive, sandy shores are a hit with families, perfect for sandcastle construction and rockpool exploration. Visitors might even catch a glimpse of dolphins in Cardigan Bay. The area is also favoured by divers, boating enthusiasts, and anglers.
Despite its size, the quaint seaside village of Aberporth is home to a variety of cafes, pubs, bars, and restaurants.
Wales Cottage Holidays commented on the holiday destination, saying: “This charming corner of West Wales offers the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, making it an ideal destination for families, couples, and even those seeking a dog-friendly getaway.”
A mother named Elin recently visited Aberporth and took to TikTok to share her experience. She exclaimed: “This is Aberporth! Stunning little sea side town! In Cardigan in West Wales! Add it to your summer must visit list.”
Elin, who shares budgeting advice and motherhood content with her 13,900-plus followers, describes the location as a “must visit this summer”. She delighted in scenic coastal strolls with her daughter, explored charming cafeĢs, enjoyed beach time, and visited a local ice cream parlour.
One user responded to the post: “Cardigan is a separate town further down the coast, the area is Ceredigion, Aberporth is my favourite place. Aberaeron is the next most beautiful.
“I spent every summer as a child in a cottage on the green opposite the pub,” another person reminisced. A resident remarked: “We’re so lucky to live where we do.
“Looks beautiful,” added another commenter.
How to reach Aberporth
Rail travellers can catch a train to Aberystwyth or Carmarthen, followed by roughly an hour’s journey to the coastline. Alternatively, from Carmarthen Railway Station, buses run to Synod Inn, leaving approximately 15 minutes to reach the coast.
Though West Wales Airport operates nearby, it serves supply operations, military and similar aircraft. Cardiff International remains the nearest airport for tourists.
The drive takes just over two hours, while public transport requires around three hours.
