Khaunte announced these ambitious plans in the State Legislative Assembly, stating that the state government had charted a roadmap to make the state more attractive to tourists from across the country and the world.

Goa Tourism Shows Exceptional Growth as per Recent Figures: The recent statistics have shed light on the spectacular growth of tourist arrivals in Goa over the past year. The state received 5.45 million visitors, including 5.18 million domestic visitors and 270,000 foreign visitors, in the first half of 2025. This represents 8.4% more tourists than the corresponding period in 2024, which reflects a good demand for both leisure and business tourism in the state.

Last June alone, there were 834,000 tourists, drawn by cultural and nature-related events. We enjoyed the widely celebrated São João and forest stays and creek tours. With hotel occupancy of between 70%-100%, the high numbers of tourists thronging their way to Goa only reinforce the fact that it remains a favoured tourist destination.

Khaunte said that direct flights between Goa and London Gatwick will restart in September end, 2025 as it’s a good news for European Tourists. The re-launch of these flights will help our business community, boost tourism and will strengthen the close ties between the UK and India.

Furthermore, Russian national carrier Aeroflot will commence direct flights from Yekaterinburg to Goa’s Mopa Airport from 5 October 2025. The carrier will have three flights each week with 210 passengers each, which means it will fly in over 13,000 Russian tourists into Goa during the season. This new service is an induction of the ever-growing number of Russian tourists visiting Goa, and offers a faster, convenient route between Goa and its second largest source market globally.

To further diversify its international reach, Goa is also working on securing new air links with countries such as Poland, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. This expansion in connectivity aligns with the state’s broader goal of tapping into new markets and encouraging more international travelers to explore Goa’s unique offerings.

“Goa Beyond Beaches”: A New Tourism Vision

As it continues to transform, Goa is reinventing itself as a place that has more to offer than just its world-famous beaches. The state has also adopted the tag line “Goa Beyond Beaches,” referring to a greater focus on promoting a range of experiences, including cultural heritage and nature tourism, as well as adventure sports and wellness escapes. This move is part of Goa’s idea of regenerative tourism, which seeks to develop in a way that enables the environment and community to further prosper.

Cultural tourism is a big thing here. Central Government schemes like Swadesh Darshan and PRASHAD also have new components under implementation for strengthening cultural offerings and heritage preservation. Among the major projects under these schemes are the Unity Mall in Chimbel and the Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Digital Museum in Ponda. The mall worth INR 161 crore is envisaged to offer a retail, entertainment and cultural destination, while the museum project worth INR 125 crore will enrich the historical tourism of the state.

World Tourism Day Celebrations: A Month-Long Festivity

Goa will celebrate the World Tourism Day event for a month in September 2025 in a move to give a push to tourism. It is a festival that will convert the dull monsoons into an exciting adventures monsoon tourist season offering a variety of tourism activities to vacationers and Goans too, promoting Goa’s diverse tourism fare while simultaneously celebrating Goa’s traditional merriment. There will be events held all over the state all month, with both local and international visitors traveling to experience them.

2025’s São João fest in Siolim links up was attended by a crowd of 10, 000 and managed to have created over 4.4 million impressions online, justifying the reputation of Goa’s cultural festivals as they become widely known. Over 9,000 people attended the third edition of the Chikhal Kalo festival at Marcel, thus reaffirming Goa’s potential to be developed as a year-round cultural tourism destination.

Enhancing Tourist Safety and Experience

To improve the overall experience for visitors, the state has also launched several initiatives aimed at enhancing safety and support for tourists. The 1364 tourist helpline, the Beach Vigil App, and a strengthened presence of lifeguards and coastal police are part of the efforts to ensure a safe and enjoyable stay for all tourists.

The Tourism Information Management Enterprise (TIME) system has also been rolled out to collect and analyze hotel occupancy data. Currently covering 25% of registered units, the system will soon be expanded to cover all hotels, providing real-time data to help with planning and resource allocation.
