Cruise Ship Without Power Left Adrift In The Ionian Sea

There was chaos and complaints from passengers when the Cruise Ship Celebrity Constellation lost power and was left adrift in the Ionian Sea for about two hours on August 2, 2025.
The incident happened 25 miles southeast of Crotone in Italy when the ship was in the middle of its eleven-night cruise from Ravenna to Rome and was scheduled for a sea day before its next port of call in Sicily’s Messina.
Electricity was restored after some hours, but the ship drifted longer, moving at just one or two knots, below its cruising speed of 24 knots.
Passengers took to social media and described their experience. Many told of their ordeal as the air conditioning went off and the interior of the ship felt stuffy. People could not use the toilets and were served cold meals during the outage.
People compared the incident to the poop cruise, which happened onboard the ship Carnival Triumph in 2013, which was also shown in a recent Netflix documentary.
However, the incident involved a more serious power outage which lasted for many days and led to an unlivable situation onboard.
Celebrity Constellation’s issues were shorter in duration and not as severe as the Carnival Triumph’s, but the disruption was very uncomfortable for guests.
It is not clear what caused the outage, though engine room fires or mechanical issues are often to blame in situations like this.
The Celebrity Constellation is one of the older ships which belong to its Millennium Class, first launched in 2002.
The ship has a gross tonnage of 90,940 tons and can accommodate 2100 guests and 1000 crew.

The event drew shipyard workers, Disney Cruise Line representatives, and onlookers excited to see the newest ship in Disney’s fleet make its debut by touching water for the very first time.

The Disney Destiny, part of the Wish-class series, now moves into the next stage, outfitting the interiors with Disney’s signature blend of storytelling, technology, and guest comforts. Over the coming months, crews will install dining venues, entertainment spaces, staterooms, and themed areas designed to immerse guests in favorite Disney stories.
Like its sister ships, the Disney Destiny will offer Broadway-style shows, imaginative kids’ clubs, adults-only retreats, and a variety of dining experiences. While Disney has not yet revealed all of the ship’s features, fans can expect surprises inspired by some of Disney’s most beloved characters and films.
The float-out also marks the beginning of preparations for sea trials, where the ship will be tested in open waters to ensure everything operates smoothly. Once complete, the Disney Destiny will make its way to its homeport and welcome its first guests.
The ship’s maiden voyage is embarks on November 20, 2025, giving Disney Cruise Line fans just a few months to anticipate her debut. With her arrival, the Destiny will join the Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and other fleet favorites, bringing even more magical vacation options to families around the world.
