Malaysia Airlines to connnect Trivandrum to Kuala Lumpur with daily flights from Dec

Following encouraging load factors and sustained demand on its Trivandrum – Kuala Lumpur route, Malaysia Airlines is set to further expand its presence in South India by increasing frequencies to the city. Beginning 12 September 2025, the airline will introduce a fifth weekly service, with daily operations to commence from 1 December 2025.
Tickets for the new frequencies will be available with immediate effect. This marks a significant step forward since the route’s launch in November 2023, which initially operated twice weekly before increasing to four times weekly in April 2024.
The airline has also partnered with Kerala Tourism under “Look East” initiative, launched in Trivandrum to strengthen travel ties between East Asia and Kerala.
The increase in frequency reaffirms Malaysia Airlines’ commitment to the Indian market by offering travellers greater flexibility and convenience, while enhancing connectivity between India and Malaysia. Through its hub in Kuala Lumpur, the airline continues to strengthen its role as the gateway to Asia and beyond.
Dersenish Aresandiran, Chief Commercial Officer of Airlines from Malaysia Aviation Group, said, “India remains a key focus market for Malaysia Airlines, and this frequency increase reaffirms our dedication to meeting the growing demand for air travel from South India. With daily flights to Trivandrum, we are well-positioned to offer greater flexibility and convenience for both business and leisure travellers, while supporting trade and tourism flows between our two countries.”
Malaysia Airlines currently operates 76 weekly flights across ten key cities in India including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, and Trivandrum. With the new additions, this number will increase to 77 weekly flights by December 2025.
Passengers flying from India to Malaysia can also take advantage of Malaysia Airlines’ Bonus Side Trip (BST) programme, which offers a complimentary side trip to one of seven domestic destinations within Malaysia. This value-added offering allows international travellers to explore more of Malaysia’s unique culture, nature, and heritage—all within a single itinerary.

United Airlines flights grounded nationwide

United Airlines flights on major routes were grounded Wednesday because of a technology issue, and additional flight delays were expected into the evening, the airline said.
An alert on the Federal Aviation Administration website said all United flights destined for Chicago were halted at their departing airports. The agency said Denver, Newark, Houston and San Francisco airports were also impacted by halted flights.
“Safety is our top priority, and we’ll work with our customers to get them to their destinations,” an emailed statement from the Chicago based-airline said without disclosing the specifics of the problem.
An AP journalist had boarded a United plane at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport for a trip to Houston when flight attendants announced a “systemwide” problem had grounded flights. They then sent passengers back to the terminal.
Another traveler, Johan Kotze, was at the New Orleans airport to begin a journey to the Indian Ocean island nation of Mauritius for vacation. Getting caught up in flight delays for him likely meant he would miss connecting flights along the way and would have to rebook not only the flights but a car and accommodations as well.
“It’s not very nice,” he said of the experience.
United Airlines apologized on social media to upset customers who were facing delays and hours sitting in planes on runways.
“Hey there, we apologize for the travel disruption today,” the airline told a customer on the social platform X. “Our teams are working to resolve the outage as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience.”

United Airlines grounds certain US flights after issue with computer systems

United Airlines grounded a large number of its flights in the U.S. on Wednesday evening after it says it discovered a technical issue in its network.
According to reporting from multiple outlets, United stopped departures of all its main flights from U.S. airports on Wednesday due to trouble with a computer system that governs the safe loading and weight distribution of aircraft.
Scripps News has not yet independently verified that reporting.
The stop did not apply to some regional partner operations run under United Airlines and did not apply to any United Airlines aircraft currently airborne to their destination.
“We expect additional flight delays this evening as we work through this issue,” United said in a message about the issue. “Safety is our top priority, and we’ll work with our customers to get them to their destinations.”
Wednesday evening the Federal Aviation Administration listed ground stops in effect for United Airlines flights at airports including Denver International Airport in Colorado, Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey and O’Hare International Airport in Chicago.
It was not clear how long the ground stops would last.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
