Air Algérie Now Resumes Budapest, Algiers, and Vienna Triangular Flights from October

Published

on

Friday, August 1, 2025

Air Algérie is bringing back its services to Budapest, Hungary after five years of suspension, making it once again possible for passengers to fly directly between Algeria and Hungary. The relaunched service will begin on 29 October, as part of the Europe-wide renewal by Irish airline. In this case, the route will be Algiers – Budapest – Vienna and it is expected to add a new dimension in terms of demand on what appears already popular sector.

Travelres have being waiting for this new service to begin, and it will indeed fly twice a week (Wednesdays closing in Saturdays) with the Boeing 737-700. The flights will operate on a regular schedule, leaving Algiers at 10.30am and arriving in Budapest at 1.15pm before continuing to Vienna. The complete triangular loop on race day will also finish in Algiers at 7 p.m.

A Return to Central Europe

Air Algérie originally launched flights to Budapest in September 2016, but the service has faced multiple suspensions and adjustments over the years. After a hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the route has not been operational for several years. This new triangular service will provide a much-needed connection between Central Europe and North Africa, reviving Budapest as a key destination in Air Algérie’s European network.

Connection was scheduled by Air Algérie a daily service between Budapest and Algiers for 2024, however this has never been realized. The additional triangular route to Budapest, complemented by the existing routing via Vienna, will make Air Algérie one of the few African airlines serving Hungary with its own flights. This makes Air Algérie a rare airline that has air links between Central Europe and Africa, with countries such as Morocco, Tunisia or Egypt.

Upon the resumption of Budapest flights, Air Algérie is consolidating its European presence and increasing travel opportunities between Algeria and the EU even further for passengers from Hungary -and continued by rail or road to neighboring Austria. The new triangular service is also more convenient for guests who wish to visit several cities in one go.

Part of Air Algérie’s Broader Expansion Strategy

The Budapest–Vienna service is part of Air Algérie’s ambitious plan to develop its international route network. The carrier is about to launch a number of new long-haul routes and unveil services for top global cities such as Guangzhou, Kuala Lumpur, New York or Havana. In addition to the above direct services, it will also strengthen its regional service to African hubs like Libreville and N’Djamena as well Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam.

Air Algérie is also looking to add flights on existing routes, such as those from Abuja launched April 2025. The carrier is also resuming its Addis Ababa services to grow in the African continent.

In an interview with the Algerian Press Service (APS) on April 28, Marketing Director Hosnia Kaoua explained these plans of expansion and stated that Air Algérie desires to become connected to up to 60 destinations around the world by year-end recent years coming. This ambitious development will expand the Air Algérie network from its existing 50 destinations, allowing more access to Europe and Africa as well as longer-haul markets.

Fleet Expansion to Support Growth

To facilitate such growth, Air Algérie is also investing heavily in its fleet. The airline has 54 aircraft in operation, but plans to acquire an additional 35 new jets by 2040. The airline’s current fleet expansion involves 15 aircraft ordered in May 2023, including five Airbus A330-900s and two A350-1000s on longhaul routes as well as eight Boeing MAX9; however the order was adjusted in December of that year with a replacement of both A350 -1000 orders for three more new generation twinjets.

This fleet expansion is essential in order to sustain the airline’s expanding international holdings, and its ability to accommodate long-haul routes as well as regional connections. New aircraft on firm order with demand growth likely to drive expanded regional and long haul operations:By supporting its narrowbody fleet through the addition of widebodies, Air Algérie is preparing for continued expansion in both areas.

Enhancing Connectivity Between Europe and Africa

The reinstatement of the Budapest route forms part of Air Algérie’s strategy increasing connectivity between Europe and Africa. Through this new triangular service passengers traveling from Hungary, Austria and any other ccountries in Europe will have more opportunities to travel between Algiers and beyond. Air Algérie is using its current status as a link between Europe and North Africa in its expansion strategy.

These new routes, together with the increased size of its fleet will help Air Algérie continue to compete in a market that is becoming increasingly crowded. As European airlines rule the skies for long-distance travel, Air Algérie gives travelers from Africa and Europe a chance to easily bundle short-haul with their trans-Atlantic trips.

Looking Forward: The Future of Air Algérie

The resumption of flights to Budapest is however only the very beginning, as Air Algérie has an ambitious plan for its expansion. With its expansion into Africa, and from Europe, the airline future looks very bright. Thanks to plans for new destinations, additional frequencies as well as fleet renewal and expansion Air Algérie will emerge a stronger player on the international aviation scene over the next few years.

The Budapest–Vienna triangle service will ease access from Algeria and Central Europe, starting on October 29th in 2025. Travellers from and to these two cities will enjoy a wider choice, better connections and can rely on the dedication of Air Algérie in order for it “to grow” according to its new policy.

While the airline continues to implement its objectives, passengers can expect flights that are easier on their schedule and more destinations along with improved services. With multiple new routes on the way, Air Algérie is set to provide dependable and comfortable air transportation between Europe, Africa and beyond.
