A Caribbean cruise passenger accidentally fell over the edge of an infinity pool while dangerously reaching over to pick up his sunglasses, and the shocking incident was caught on camera

A passenger on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship fell over the edge of an infinity pool on the 15th deck as they reached for their sunglasses.

Cringe-worthy footage reveals the moment a holidaymaker was leaning against the barrier of a pool before quickly losing control of their balance and plummeting down to a lower deck on the Icon of the Seas ship. It looks as though the man was trying to reach out over to grab something, which was later revealed to be his beloved pair of sunglasses.

Moments before losing his balance, hanging on the edge, he straightened his legs and came tumbling down. Despite a mighty fall, somehow the man did not sustain any injuries, as reported by the account that posted the surprising video online.

According to the Daily Mail, the pool area from which he fell is located on deck 15, and sitting directly below it is the children’s Splashaway Bay play area on deck seven. Social media users couldn’t believe their eyes at the video and this passenger’s irresponsible attempt that put not only his health but also his life at risk.

One user claimed to have witnessed the incident for themselves and was quick to defend him, saying: “He fell into a space not open to the public. If he had fallen over the railing, he would have fallen to deck five in the kids splash area. That’s 10 decks below.” They added: “He was confined to his room after the incident and not let out until arriving back in Miami.”

Meanwhile, Royal Caribbean has released a statement about the viral moment.

“A guest accidentally fell onto the pool gutter after reaching over to retrieve their sunglasses,” they explained. “Our crew immediately attended to the guest, and fortunately, the guest did not experience any injuries.”

It’s ironic that the passenger would happen to fall over the world’s largest cruise ship, standing at an impressive 1,196 ft long and 219 ft wide. The ship is made up of 20 decks and employs over 2,000 international crew members, one of whom experienced a fatal incident just days before the infinity pool fall.

It turns out a crew member on that very same ship had reportedly stabbed a fellow female co-worker before jumping overboard to his death. The Royal Bahamas Police Force told NBC News that the man stabbed his colleague repeatedly around 7.30pm on Thursday night.

Both crew members were working on the luxury cruise when it’s thought that a “personal dispute” erupted on board. What is believed to be his body was recovered from the water just minutes after he allegedly attacked the 28-year-old woman.

In a state of panic, unaware of the situation, many passengers tried to save the man overboard by throwing him life rings. Although, just 30 minutes after the stabbing took place, he was found dead by the onboard medical team.

American Cruise Lines Announces New Itinerary in 2026 Extended Cruises Collection

In celebration of the U.S. 250th anniversary, American
Cruise Lines
has added a fifth new itinerary to their 2026
collection of extended cruises.

American’s 32-Day Revolutionary War Cruise will sail between
Albany, New York and Washington, D.C. from October 8 to November 5, 2026. The
patriotic adventure will feature Revolutionary War experts on onboard telling
the story of America’s fight for independence as guests sail the Hudson River
and sections of the East Coast during peak fall foliage season. Small ship ports
of call include New York City, Boston, Annapolis, Yorktown, Sleepy Hollow,
Newport, Plymouth and Philadelphia.

Guests have the opportunity to sail aboard all three of the
newest ships in the country: American Legend, which launched in October 2024; American
Patriot
, which began sailing in June 2025; and sister ship, American
Pioneer, launching in October 2025.

Guided shore excursions include those in West Point, Mount
Vernon, Hyde Park, and the nation’s historic triangle—Jamestown, Williamsburg,
and Yorktown—pivotal places that defined the birth of our nation. The itinerary
also includes a stay at the Four Seasons in Washington, D.C. and a special
visit to the Smithsonian’s Entertainment Nation exhibit which American Cruise
Lines sponsors.

Other Extended Cruises for 2026 previously announced at
Seatrade in April 2025 include: a 52-Day Great United States Cruise (from
Portland, OR to Boston, MA); a 51-Day Spring Across America Cruise (from
Charleston, S.C. to Juneau, AK); a 55-Day Great American Fall Foliage Cruise
(from Juneau, AK to Washington, D.C.); and a 36-Day Civil War Battlefields
Cruise (from New Orleans, LA to Gettysburg, PA).

All cruises include a dedicated cruise concierge, flights
and hotels between cruise segments, daily excursions and entertainment, all onboard
food and beverages to include alcohol, as well as tips and gratuities, port
charges and fees and WiFi.

Celebrity River Ships Will Feature ‘Meaningful’ Differentiation – Cruise Industry News

Jason Liberty, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, said that in 2028, the company expects significant benefits from the first complete operational year of Celebrity River.

During the company’s second quarter earnings call, Liberty said that the company will introduce Celebrity’s first river ships in 2027 and that will ramp up from two in 2027 to four ships in 2028.

Liberty said that the number of ships for river cruising is not just a reflection of the company getting comfortable operationally but having a very strong idea of all the different potential destinations, both in Europe and globally.

“We want to make sure that we can deliver these experiences to our guests, and we have to challenge ourselves not just because we can make some more money on it, but because we need to meet that demand for our guests who are looking to have that river experience,” Liberty added.

He added that Royal Caribbean feels good about the destination experience that Celebrity will offer, both on the ship and on land.

Liberty said his focus is currently on building up the company’s river ship fleet as soon as possible.

“I’m probably more focused on how we get it done faster. But our teams are being very thoughtful about that. It’s going to be a great vacation experience for our guests,” Liberty said.

“We’re pretty well baked with the ship design, which we are very confident will be a meaningful differentiator to what is currently available out there,” he added.

“And there’s a lot of space. This is a very underpenetrated marketplace, we think. There’s room for everybody to grow successfully, but we’re going to elevate this.”

Liberty said that another confidence driver is that the company has customers coming forward, wanting to be onboard as soon as possible.

Aroya Seeing Positive Response for Itineraries in the Med – Cruise Industry News

Aroya Cruises is seeing a positive market response for its itineraries in the Mediterranean, Executive Director of Marketing Turky Kari told Cruise Industry News.

After debuting in late 2024, the company’s first ship, the Aroya, repositioned to the region in late June.

The vessel is now offering a series of seven-night cruises that feature visits to destinations in Turkey, Greece, and Egypt.

“Sales are on the rise. We announced the season a bit late, but bookings are going very well,” he continued, noting that upcoming trips have between 50 and 65 percent of their berths already booked.

“We also have travel agents visiting the ship, and the numbers are now increasing much more than expectations,” Kari added.

Aroya’s itineraries in the Mediterranean were planned using Istanbul as a homeport due to its airlfit.

“There are around 12 flights per day from different airlines connecting Saudi Arabia to Istanbul, so it gives very easy access,” Kari explained.

“Plus, the Saudis are very familiar with Istanbul and Turkish culture.”

Aroya then came up with two main itineraries, including one that does not require visas for most of its core markets.

“That’s why we have the butterfly itineraries. We have one week for only Turkey plus Egypt, because they don’t require a visa. And the other one, which sails to Greece, is mainly focused on Europeans, as well as Saudis who have a Schengen visa,” Turki explained.

While the Mediterranean is a popular destination for Saudi guests, the move to the region was also related to weather concerns in the Middle East, he added.

“Because of the weather, we cannot sail in the Red Sea or the Arabian Gulf during this time of the year; the weather is a struggle. It’s very hot,” he said.

Current plans call for a return to the Mediterranean in 2026, with the Aroya offering similar itineraries departing from Istanbul.

“It will depend on the success of this first season. But we’ll soon start planning next year, and the plan so far is to offer the same itineraries between Turkey and Greece, and Turkey and Egypt,” Turki explained.
