A robust eight point five percent increase in domestic travelers from Mexico—particularly from Mexico City and Jalisco—has expanded the national market, while Canadian arrivals have grown by over four percent, helping to balance a slight decline in US visitors. Despite this minor dip, the US remains the top international market, with California contributing the largest share. With projected annual arrivals surpassing four point one million, high return visitation nearing forty percent, and strong demand for wellness-focused, luxury travel, Los Cabos continues to lead as one of North America’s most resilient and rewarding destinations.

By mid-2025, tourism in Los Cabos is showing strong and steady momentum, marking another year of upward growth and solid performance in the travel sector. While the dramatic boom that followed the global pandemic has moderated, the destination continues to demonstrate steady growth across key travel segments. The twin towns of Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, along with the scenic corridor that connects them, are moving from post-crisis recovery into a phase of long-term expansion.
Visitor Numbers Set to Reach Record Levels
Los Cabos is projected to receive approximately 4.13 million visitors by the end of the year. If achieved, this would represent a 5% increase from the 3.93 million tourists in 2024 and a 7% rise from the 3.86 million in 2023. This growth would also mark the fourth consecutive year in which the destination has broken its own record for total annual arrivals.
This consistent year-over-year increase highlights the sustained demand for Los Cabos among both international and domestic travelers. The region has successfully maintained its appeal in a competitive tourism environment through a combination of targeted marketing, expanded flight connections, and elevated hospitality experiences.
Surge in Domestic Tourism Offsets Minor International Dip
In the first four months of 2025, domestic tourism increased by 8.5%, bringing in 463,200 Mexican visitors. This rise is attributed to improved connectivity within Mexico and the growing appeal of luxury coastal destinations for national travelers.
In contrast, international arrivals declined slightly by 0.4%, totaling 913,000 visitors during the same timeframe. Despite the marginal drop, international travelers still make up the majority of arrivals, accounting for 67.9%, compared to 32.1% for domestic tourists.
This balance aligns with the current flight network, which includes 32 international air routes from the United States and 16 domestic connections within Mexico. The number of Mexican cities connected to Los Cabos has doubled over the past ten years, leading to a larger share of national tourism.
Leading Travel Markets
Within Mexico, Mexico City continues to dominate as the top domestic source market, accounting for 35% of national visitors, followed by Jalisco at 21%. On the international side, California remains the strongest contributor, providing 37% of all foreign arrivals to Los Cabos.
Although there was a 4.9% decrease in visitors from the U.S., this was partially offset by a 4.1% increase in Canadian travelers. Canada remains the second-largest international market, and this positive growth underlines Los Cabos’ ability to maintain international interest across North America.
Hotel Prices Adjust While Demand Holds Steady
One notable shift in 2025 has been the decline in hotel prices, marking the first rate drop in several years. In March 2025, the average daily rate (ADR) was \$498, compared to \$553 in March 2024, representing a 10% year-over-year decrease. In April, the ADR slipped again to \$488.
This moderation in pricing does not indicate weakening demand but rather a rebalancing of the market after years of escalating rates. It may also reflect increased competition among premium resorts, which are adjusting their pricing strategies while continuing to offer upscale experiences.
High Percentage of Return Visitors
Another strong indicator of traveler satisfaction is the return visitor rate, which stood at 38% in March 2025. This is close to the peak rate of 40% recorded in 2021. While global comparisons are limited due to varying reporting practices, Los Cabos is one of the few destinations in Mexico to publish data on repeat visitors, making it a leader in tracking traveler loyalty.
